When I did my research, I looked at the kind of people that went to pubs and those who got married, because as wedding singers, they will mainly target the bride and groom, because they are the people that will pay for and book the band, rather than the other guests.
Pubs: People who go to pubs are traditionally middle aged men, meeting up with the 'lads' for a drink away from the women. Pubs are traditionally seen as a respite for men who can get away from their nagging wives for a few drinks. Also, as beer is much more expensive, sometimes double or more than in the supermarket, those visiting pubs are generally middle class or ritired on a good pension.
However, it has also been noticed that in working class pubs, lower class, older men and the main vistors. But still the target audience is prodominantly men.
On the other hand, as traditions and values are changing, women are much more regularly visiting pubs either with their men or out with the girls. However, they are usually of a similar demographic to the men in the pubs they visit (middle aged and middle class).
Therefore, I found the main people going to pubs are men and women from well off backgrounds to afford the higher prices of alcohol in pubs, and this is especially evident in pubs with band nights, which are seldom working class pubs.
Weddings: The average UK wedding now costs £15,000 plus. People who marry are having to save a lot more nowadays before they can hold the wedding, meaning that the bride and groom are getting older. Also, as people put careers before marrige and children, weddings are coming later on in life still.
The average age of of a UK bride is now 30 and rising, and the average age of a UK groom is now at 32. Similarly, the average age of the band or DJ playing at weddings is also 30.
Wedding guests range from all ages; from very young children, to grandparents and even great-grandparents. Therefore, wedding singers need to be able to play songs that will entertain the whole spectrum of ages, although particularly the bride and groom.
Therefore, I found that the average bride and groom ages are rising to now middle aged couples who are increasingly career focused and are generally on fairly good incomes to be able to afford to save for 'the big day'.
Over all I have found that the target audience of Group Therapy will probably be slightly more towards males, but overall both sexes from the middle aged demographic, with generally good backgrounds. However, they also need to be able to appeal to younger and older audiences to entertain everyone at a wedding, and maybe get these younger people to book them at their own wedding in a few years time.
